In medical science hemorrhoids are classified into two types: external and internal. Mostly people do not understand the classification but with proper diagnosis a patient can be identified with the right class and treat according to its symptoms. So, how do you recognize external and internal hemorrhoids?

External hemorrhoids, as the name suggest locates outside of your anus, which is more commonly explicable by people at large. It is prominent and feels like a lump around the anus. However, when the veins swell inside of your rectum, it is classified as internal hemorrhoids.

What are external hemorrhoids and its symptoms?

External hemorrhoids are painful and cause extreme irritation, but it is easy to diagnosis because it is visible. If you feel a bluish colored painful lump around your anus, consult your doctor for a hemorrhoid check-up. This lump tends to occur spontaneously and eventually cause extreme strain while passing stool. The skin covering the outside of the anus is usually attached to the core tissues, and with a blood clot in this tightly held area, the pressure passes to this underlying tissues causing pain.

Another symptom is blood passing through stool and more often you find bright red blood in your toilet paper. The pain is constant and sometimes severe in many cases. Itching is another symptom of external hemorrhoids and causes extreme irritation.

What are anal skin tags?

Many times people complain of painless, soft tissues felt around the anus. Though it is painless still shouldn’t be overlooked casually. It may possible that external blood clot stretches out the covering skin around anus and the blood clot is absorbed by the body. This is not a serious affair though while cleaning the anus after a BM causes some irritation.

What are internal hemorrhoids and what are the symptoms?

Internal hemorrhoids are painless but can be fatal if it is not treated early. It occurs deep inside the lining of the rectum, which cannot be felt. However, when you need to be cautious and consult your doctor when you notice regular blood in your toilet bowl.

Internal hemorrhoids can be classified by their degrees of prolapse. There are principally four types:

Type 1 – No prolapse
Type 2 – Prolapse that grows internally but not externally manifests
Type 3 – Prolapse that comes out from the rectum area and pushed inside by the patient (usually a painful one)
Type 4 – Prolapse that immediate needs doctors’ attention, cannot be pushed back

What are prolapsed hemorrhoids?

Prolapsed hemorrhoids are a severe case of internal hemorrhoids that sometimes protrude from the anus. Prolapsed is a very painful stage and demand immediate consultation from the doctor. Initially it burns continuously and mild itching all the time, later on it bleeds whenever you give a bit of pressure during bowel movement. A patient suffers from bleeding during bowel movement, experience pain in the anus area, and uncomfortable itching almost all the time in that area. Blackened stool or pain during defecating may not be a symptom of internal hemorrhoids but still if you feel pain or uncomfortable itching in and around anus area, consult your doctor.
